PERSONAL, SOCIAL, HEALTH & ECONOMIC

PSHE enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. It aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. We provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. Our children are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community. PSHE is integral to the development of children values in order for them to become a positive citizen in a forever changing community. PSHE also is an important part of school assemblies were children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural curiosity is stimulated, challenged and nurtured.

PERSONAL, SOCIAL, HEALTH & ECONOMIC - Curriculum Intent

At Tickford Park Primary School we aim to create a happy, purposeful and supportive environment where children are enabled to become successful learners, develop their full potential and achieve the highest educational standards they can. We believe a collaborative culture is fundamental in enabling children to develop personally and emotionally, and as young citizens. Children grow up in a complex and ever changing world and are exposed to an increasing range of influences.

As a school we aim to build on and complement the learning that has already started at home to provide the knowledge, understanding and skills that children need to lead healthy, fulfilling and meaningful lives, both now and in the future. PSHE is central to a school’s ethos, supporting children in their development, and underpinning learning in the classroom, school, and in the wider community.

RELATIONSHIPS & SEX EDUCATION - Curriculum Intent

At Tickford Park Primary School, our teaching will take account of the maturity of the children and aim to help with physical, mental and emotional changes of growing up.  We aim to give them an appropriate understanding of human reproduction, relationships and family life within a moral and ethical framework.  Our RSE programme draws on experiences and activities covered by other curriculum subjects, particularly aspects of the science e.g. life and living processes, and other aspects of the PSHE and citizenship scheme of work.  It needs to be recognised that school is not the only setting in which children gain information and awareness of this subject.
