MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGE

At Tickford Park we aim to provide a broad and balanced languages education, using the Easy MFL scheme of work at Key Stage two that includes speaking, listening to, writing and reading French. Children learn about French culture through stories songs and poems. in Early years and Key Stage one the children are taught a variety of words, phrases and songs in an informal way.

“I am now in Year 3 so I have just started learning French. The lessons are really fun because we get to talk in French, sing songs and we have played some great games. I can now say some numbers in French.”

MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGE - Curriculum Intent

At Tickford Park we intend to give children the opportunities:
To develop an interest in learning other languages.

  • To introduce young children to another language in a way that is enjoyable and stimulating.
  • To encourage children’s confidence and creative skills.
  • To stimulate and encourage children’s curiosity about language.
  • To read fluently and understand the main points and some of the detail in short written texts.
  • To write imaginatively short texts on familiar topics and use knowledge of grammar to enhance or change the meaning of phrases.
  • To speak confidently: understand the main points in spoken language, give short talks and take part in conversations.
  • To understand a different culture and help children develop their awareness of cultural differences in other countries to our won.

We celebrate our children’s language and cultural heritage through European Languages day every 26th of September, showcasing the children’s learning in an assembly involving song, poetry and drama.
