COMPUTING


Here at Tickford Park Primary school we want children to have the opportunity to use technology individually, to become good digital citizens. Our curriculum covers computer science, information technology, digital literacy and online safety.  We are preparing them for secondary school with every child having their own logins, Google workspace account and homework set in Google classroom.

COMPUTING - Curriculum Intent

The National Curriculum for Computing aims to ensure that all pupils: 


  • Can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation.
  • Can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
  • Can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems. 
  • Become responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology. 

 
We aim to achieve this by providing opportunities:


  • For pupils to become familiar with and skilled in using computational technology and programming software. 
  • To access equipment which supports pupils learning and individual needs. 
  • To equip pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to be active participants in a digital world.
  • To ensure that computing is integrated into the curriculum so that children can apply their computing knowledge in a range of contexts.
  • To provide access to a range of equipment to support pupils and staff. Desktop computers and whiteboards, laptops, chromebooks, ipads, digital cameras that create a challenging and stimulating environment. 

 
This aims are implemented via the ‘2simple’ scheme of work by Purple Mash. This scheme enables children build on current knowledge to further develop their skills as they progress through the school.  All children are given a login to Google workspace with full range of office tools, plus access to several online resources.

Great IT provision at out school

IT at Tickford Park

We are proud to offer some of the best IT resources of any primary school in Milton Keynes. We have the facilities to teach a full computing curriculum, every child has access to a device during their computing lessons and in the classroom, children do not have to share IT resources at Tickford Park.  We are preparing our children to have great IT skills and be good digital citizens.


We have a dedicated ICT suite with 33 computers, so every child has access to a computer during their computing lesson. Very few primary schools can offer this facility to children.  Our children have computing lessons every week and also have access to Chromebooks and desktops in the classroom when needed, for cross curriculum use and research.


There is computer access in every year group from Foundation to year 6.


We have four Chromebook trolleys with 16 Chromebooks per trolley. This gives every year group in KS2 access to 16 Chromebooks any time of the school day and they can borrow more Chromebooks for whole class use.


Children also have access to iPads. We have Interactive Whiteboards across the whole school, and classroom visualizers.


Children also have their own Google for education account, which gives them access to a suite of office tools at school and at home. They also have access to several web based software titles to enhance learning.  We are giving all our children access to the best IT facilities possible to give them the best start to learning those vital IT skills, which will be needed for the future.

  • What age do children use computers at TPS

    Children have access to computers in their foundation classroom.  From year 1 upwards they will have computing lessons in the ICT suite at least once a week. There is one dekstop computer per child,  They also have access to ipads and Chromebooks in class.

  • What Access do they have at home?

    Every child is given their own school google login which gives them access to their own school google workspace and a full set of google office suite of tools.  This can be used in school and at home.  They are also given access to several other web based educational sites.

  • How can I help my child at home?

    If you are able to give your child access to a computer with keybopard and mouse you will be helping their development. Children are used to mobile touch devices but not keyboards and a mouse.  We also use google classroom in school for home learning so access to a chromebook, laptop or desktop will also help them.

  • I don't know how to access their work?

    Your child will have been given a login card, stuck into their home record book.  Sign your child into Google Chrome, using their google logon credentials, Link data and sync, they will have access to  their school accounts / passwords as if at school.
