Remote Learning

Remote Learning at Tickford Park

Remote Learning Overview
Pupils across the school will be set remote learning on a daily basis. This will include daily maths and English work as well as one foundation subject. Content will be matched to the curriculum for the year group and will include new content alongside consolidation of prior learning. A weekly overview will be provided in advance so that parents can be prepared for the week ahead.

In most cases, children will be taught the same curriculum that they would have been taught had they been in school. In a few circumstances, where teaching content online would significantly detract from the quality of learning (for example, when teaching electricity in science, pupils are unlikely to have access to resources required to safely make their own circuits), minor adjustments may be made to the long-term curriculum map.

Teachers will set work each day in the Home Learning Blogs which can be found under the ‘classes’ tab of our school website. This area is password protected. Pupils will be set a minimum of 3 hours work per day in KS1 or 4 hours in KS2. In addition to the subjects outlined above, teachers will provide pupils with enjoyable and engaging activities to break up their day and support wellbeing throughout this period. Each day, in each year group a teacher will be assigned to set work, review submissions and support pupils who are working from home.

Communication
We will use Class Dojo as our primary means of communication with parents during this period. Parents can use this to send messages to teachers, including queries about remote learning. These should be sent to the teacher responsible for remote learning in that year group.

While your children are working from home, we will continue to keep you up to date on provision and events in the school community through Class Dojo updates and weekly newsletters.

Feedback
Children should submit completed work through the portfolio function on Class Dojo. They can do this by uploading photographs or scans of their work, attaching files or filling in the portfolio submission area. In some cases, teachers will provide worksheets to be completed. Submitting work through Class Dojo will allow teachers to provide feedback including areas for improvement. Where improvements are required, teachers may return a draft of the work for pupils to edit and resubmit.

Teachers will use a range of resources, including online forms, to assess pupil work. Some of the platforms that we use, such as My Maths and Times Tables Rock Stars, auto-mark the children’s work, providing them with instant feedback.

Resource for Home Learning
Age appropriate resource packs to support home learning have been made available to all pupils. If you have not yet collected one of these for your child, please let Mr Smith know when you would like to collect this and we will make the necessary arrangements.

If you are unable to collect a pack, please contact Ms Chapman, who will arrange a delivery.

If you find that you need specific additional resources to support your child’s learning at home, please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will do our best to meet your request.

Recorded Instruction
Teachers will provide daily recorded instruction videos. This will provide the pupils with direct teaching, matched to the day’s learning.
In Reception and KS1, teachers will prepare and provide two teaching videos each day.

In KS2, teachers will prepare and provide one teaching video per day.

For additional lessons, teachers will provide instructional videos prepared by other organisations such as BBC Bitesize and Oak National Academy.

Live Sessions
In KS2 a daily live session will be held each morning to introduce the day’s activities and cover key teaching points to support the pupils with their learning. These will be scheduled as follows:

Year Group     Time
Year 3               9:00am
Year 4               9:30am
Year 5               10:00am
Year 6               10:30am

In some cases, live lessons will be used instead of recorded instruction videos. Teachers will select the most appropriate approach to support the planned learning.

Social Meets
Each week all children working from home will be invited to join a Google meet with a small group of their peers and teachers. These will be social sessions, designed to check up on pupil wellbeing and provide the pupil an opportunity to interact more informally.

These sessions are presently in place for all children in Years 1 to 6 and will commence for children in Foundation Stage in February.

Pupil Engagement
We will monitor the engagement of pupils with home learning and reach out to parents where we have concern over pupils’ remote learning activity. One of the ways that teachers will do this is by providing a daily register activity for pupils to complete. We fully understand that there may be a range of reasons why pupils struggle to engage and it is important that we discuss these with you in order to overcome any barriers.

Support with Devices
If your child has difficulty accessing online learning, due to a lack of devices in the home, please do get in touch with either Mr Smith (Headteacher) or Ms Chapman (Deputy Headteacher) as it is likely that we will be able to help.

You can do this via Class Dojo, or by ringing the school office. Please be aware that, during the current school closure, the school office will be unmanned between 12:45 and 1:30pm each day.

Technical Support
Our Remote Learning Lead Teacher has prepared videos to support parents in accessing platforms such as Google Meets and Class Dojo Portfolios. These are available on the Home Learning Blogs, Class Dojo or upon request.

If you or your child are having any difficulty accessing any aspects of the online learning, such as viewing video resources or logging into platforms that we are using, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. In the first instance the best contact would be the teacher managing the remote learning for your child but please also feel free to get in touch with Mr Smith or Mr Cowper in these situations.

If we are unable to help you with the issue, it is likely that we will pass it on to our IT team to find a solution.

Working Offline
Whilst our preference will always be to help your child to access online learning, we are aware that there may be a few home situations where this is not possible. In these cases, we will provide printed materials for your child to work on at home. If you need this provision, please get in touch with a member of our leadership team – Mr Smith, Ms Chapman or Mr Cowper.

Pastoral Support
Where pupils are struggling with home learning, either with regards to their wellbeing, motivation or engagement, we encourage parents to get in touch. We are more than happy to discuss individual circumstances and we are able to offer a range of support or strategies to support pupils working from home.

Remote Education and Self-Isolation
If your child has a place in our keyworker/vulnerable pupil provision but needs to self-isolate, their education will be provided remotely as per this guidance. In these circumstances, we do not expect there to be any differences to the provision for all pupils learning from home.

Contact
If you have any further questions regarding the remote learning provision at Tickford Park Primary School, please get in touch with Daniel Smith, Headteacher, by Class Dojo or e-mail.
